Garofalo Tango Workshops

Jose Garofalo back in Austin for a full weekend of Tango wisdom and classes!! Not to miss his amazing teachings! Jose’s tango career dates back to the early 1980’s. Jose is a complete artist, who weaves an imaginary bridge among the visual arts, theater, and tango dance. Jose is a teachers of teacher. A leader in the tango community in Buenos Aires and we feel honored to host him in Esquina Tango!

*Friday, April 27th, Beginner & All Levels
[1] 7:00pm – 8:30pm Rules of the Game (of the Tango game)
Tools, tips and exercises to understand Tango, improve navigation skills, musicality and be a better dancer partner!
Friday night class located at Dance International: 2417 Buell Ave, Austin, TX 78757. Milonga to follow (separate fee applies).

*Saturday, April 28th, Beginner & Intermediate Levels
[2] 2:30pm – 4:00pm Tango Limits (inside)
Fundamentals of Traditional Tango and sequences that preserve the essence of tango.

[3] 4:15pm – 5:45pm “Styles of Tango”
Learn and explore the 3 most known tango styles.

*Sunday, April 29th, Intermediate & Advance Levels
[4] 1:45pm – 3:15pm Tango Limits (outside) Part I
Investigating and playing outside the “tango limits” Breaking the embrace, change of roles, non tango music.

[5] 3:30pm – 5:00pm Tango Limits (outside) Part II
Investigating and playing outside the “tango limits” Breaking the embrace, change of roles, non tango music.
** Please note that we are requesting students to sign up for both Sunday classes (Part I & Part II) so for material to evolve and for everyone to get the most out of them

Those students that come with their partner will no be requesting to rotate!

ABOUT JOSE:
Jose’s tango career dates back to the early 1980’s. Jose is a complete artist, who weaves an imaginary bridge among the visual arts, theater, and tango dance. Jose is a teachers of teacher. A leader in the tango community in Buenos Aires and we feel honored to be able to host him in Esquina Tango!

Partial Bio: Jose studied drawing and painting with the great Guillermo Kuitca, acting with Vivi Tellas, and tango with Gustavo Naveira, Puppy Castello, The Dinzels and Miguel Balmaceda, among others. Since 1982, Jose had divided his life between painting and tango, where he is recognized as a distinguished dancer, choreographer, director, and teacher. Among other achievements, he won the National Prize of the Arts in 1991 and 1996. With Carlos Stassi, Jose organized the mythic Buenos Aires milonga called Porteño y Bailarín, where one could frequently see his paintings exhibited. He participated in numerous plays, and danced the choreographies of Ana Maria Stekelman. His most recent work, Íntimos (Intimate), under the direction of Cristina Banegas and danced by him and Eladia Cordoba, earned much praise in the world of tango. José Garófalo emerges from the vanguard generation of Buenos Aires which approaches tango with the boldness and passion this genre demands.
