Belly Dance Music WorkshopSaturday, February 5th, 4:00pm - 6:30pmA workshop to familiarize the dancer with the various genres of bellydance music from Egyptian Classical to Turkish to Contemporary Tribal. You will: ~Learn what instruments, sounds and rhythms characterize each style ~Discover the history behind the music ~Determine which dance style is appropriate to which music ~Get tools to help understand the music and rhythm to dance better, whether choreographing or improvising. ~Be introduced to new music and a new way of appreciating it! Cost is $25 per person / $20 for Esquina Tango Members (to register in advance please contact Jamie Lyn at 512-754-7427/0 | |  | | Come learn the basics of Turkish Oryantal style Bellydance in a 2 1/2 hour workshop designed to familiarize you with the particular moves and style that characterize Classical Turkish Bellydance. Learn the history of Turkish dance, how to distinguish the music, the basic rhythms and add onto your existing knowledge of Bellydance moves with the singular style that is Turkish. Bear in mind, this is not Gypsy, Rom or Folkloric Turkish, but rather a style that utilizes aspects of the previously mentioned styles combined with Arabic dance and even some Indian influences. There's gonna be a lot of hip twisting fun going on!
Jamie Lynn dances both Egyptian Style and Turkish Oryantal and loves both for their variety of energy and emotion. She is the Turkish dancer at Raks Helwa Bellydance Show at Ruta Maya. She has been studying Turkish style since she went to Turkey in 1999.

Who Should do the class/Para Quien es la clase: Everyone is welcome to take this class. Three different kinds of meditation will be practiced appropiate for all levels, no previous experience is necessary./Son todo bienvienidos a participar de esta clase.Se practicarán tres tipos de meditación apropiados para todos los niveles, no se requiere experiencia previa. What to Wear & What to bring/Que traer: This class can be taken sitting on a chair or on a little pillow (some pillows and blanket provided but feel free to bring your own). Dress comfortably or come in your work clothes! Brown bag, eat with us after the meditation (bring your lunch or share our simple vegetarian menu)/La clase puede realizarse en una silla o en un almohadón sobre el piso con una manta (se proveen ambos pero pueden traer los suyos tambien). Tuesday, November 9th Bahian Dance Workshops with Dandha Da HoraSponsored by Acadêmicos da Ópera, the Austin Samba School  | Basic level: 6:00pm - 7:30pm Intermediate level: 7:45pm - 9:15pm Fee: Esquina Members = $13 per workshop, or $24 for both Non Members - $15 per workshop, or $27 for both *Please note that there won't be regular Samba classes that night! | Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, Dandha has been a member of Ile Aiye, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions, since she was 6 years old. She is bringing the incredible spirit of Salvador and of Ile Aiye to Austin, Texas to teach an Afro-Brazilian & Samba dance class and you're invited! A master dancer as well as vocalist and percussionist, Dandha honors the incredible gifts of her culture everytime she performs. As a lead dancer with Ile Aiye and lead vocals of music group Sambada based in Santa Cruz, California, Dandha has shared the stage with Brazilian stars such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. So get ready to move your body and feel the energy that Dandha is bringing to Austin for the first time! | What to wear: Comfortable workout or dance wear is suggested. No special footwear is required for this class; students can dance in bare feet, dance/jazz sneakers, or lightweight tennis shoes, depending on preference.
