The featured films Bus 174, Favela Rising and 5 X Favela by Ourselves reveal... the ways social discrimination cripple individuals and communities as well the ways grassroots organization and the arts rehabilitate and empower them. The photo exhibition, complementing the films, is a collection of memoirs captured by two foreign volunteers during their volunteer experience with organizations such as Iko Poran, Ballet de Santa Teresa, and Centro Convivencia Infatil. Homemade Pão de queijo and freshly brewed Brazilian coffee will be served. Introduction and discussion lead by Rachel Kokel post and prior film screenings. | |
