Kunitan is a South American music community ensemble.  In Bolivian Quechua our name means "in the moment," which we feel captures the spirit of our group in term of our openness to new players and our sheer enjoyment of the music in the moment.  Kunitan includes members from a range of countries including Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, and the U.S. who contribute their own rhythms, musicality, and especially alegría (joy--an essential ingredient for our music) to our collective sound.

Kunitan uses their music to entertain and also to educate diverse audiences about Latin America. The panpipes (zampon) workshop, presented in collaboration with the Outreach Office at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at UT, exposes publics of all ages to Andean musical techniques and aesthetics, culture, and languages.
