An evening of classical guitar with Colin Thurmond performing music from across Latin America & Spain. Including the music of Brouwer, Barrios, Moreno Torroba, Ponce, and Lauro.
Colin Thurmond explores a wide variety of genres and styles of music, being equally sought after as a performer, composer, and music director. He has been seen performing for the premiere of a Nicholas Cage film, classical music with members of the Berlin Philharmonic, electronic music in illegal warehouses in NYC, jazz with the legendary big bands, and more than a few Irish music cèilid at a local pub. Colin earned his doctorate in musical arts from the New England Conservatory in 2013. He is a multiple-time prize winner for international solo, chamber, concerto, and composition competitions. He has also taught music theory and music history at several colleges in Colorado and Massachusetts. The Boulder Symphony Orchestra commissioned Colin for the Concierto de Pampas, a duo concerto for guitar and percussion, which premiered in April 2011 with Colin himself as a guitarist. Of the premier the Boulder Examiner wrote, “Mr. Thurmond has got to be Superman.” As a music director, he has been an artist-in-residence at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, where he directed multiple immersive theatrical productions. He has also been music director for the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare in the Park series, music directing for productions of Two Gentlemen of Verona, Romeo & Juliet, and King Lear.
